Crystal Harris, a mother of two, is perhaps best known for her successful legislative campaign to pass California’s AB 1522, landmark legislation that closed a loophole in state law which had allowed a victim of spousal rape to be ordered to pay alimony to her attacker. AB 1522 amended California’s Family Code to ensure that survivors of spousal rape and violent abuse cannot be financially obligated to their assailants. Source
She also championed “Kathy’s Law,” a measure designed to enhance protections for victims of domestic violence by authorizing courts to order GPS monitoring of high-risk violent offenders. The proposal sought to provide law enforcement and victims with an added layer of safety by tracking offenders’ movements and helping ensure compliance with court-ordered restrictions. Source
